Program Night 1 Guest
Larry Crabb called the meeting to order at 7:30 PM.
Announcements:
• Steve Paulson’s porch will be available next month for print and slide deliveries.
• A few last minute corrections to our membership list have to be made. The up-to-date list will be available next month. If you need our individual N4C numbers (SE _____), please contact Larry.
• SCCC Christmas Party, Thursday, 18 December. The party will be held at the church this year. The Crabbs may be in Arizona. Come on down at 6:30 PM. A – J should bring a salad to share; K-Z should bring a dessert to share.
Old Business:
• We are beginning the application process for better postal rates. As long as we have “Sioux City Camera Club” on the label, we’ll get a better rate; we’ll be in their national database.
New Business:
• I moved this item from our Forum because it’s a good idea that we probably need to discuss. Larry presented an idea to label our monthly prints with a “Comments Wanted” note. This would allow the print maker and others to learn from their work. The judge should then make an effort to provide comments for that print. We may have to watch whether our comments are truly constructive or too critical.
Program:
• Jack Bristow’s notes for his program on RAW files will be posted to the SCCC website.
View & Review:
• Pattern photos were shown and discussed.
Discussion Forum:
• What is a good, contemporary definition of N4C’s Digital Contemporary category of images?
• There is no good definition.
• There is a full spectrum of submitted work from basic, simply infrared subjects to very highly manipulated alien worlds.
• It may take five years to reach a good, working definition.
• The entries have to teach the judges what to look for while every judge brings their own pre-conceptions to every judging.
• What probably works best is: Impact, Impact, Impact!
• N4C is making an effort to get judges for the categories in which the judge submits work and competes.
• This led to the comment about no longer getting comments from work returned from N4C. It’s how we learn to be better. We realize the time constraints and the enormous effort required to make comments on every entry. But the should be a learning experience.
• Some are tempted to submit work to one or more online photo evaluation websites simply to obtain feedback on their work.
• Others bring their photos to their place of business to get feedback.
• Along that line there is only one slide circuit operational in N4C. With today’s digital tools (e-mail, .jpg files, web tools) should N4C re-start their Circuits in a 21st century manner?
• How do you make labels for the back of your prints?
• Using MS Word, got to Tools >Labels >New Document. You can add your demographics and print to a sheet of labels.
• How do you get white snow?
• The best way is with + exposure (open the lens up)
• White balance is important but you have much better control by manipulating exposure.
• It was noted that there are several inexpensive products that work well in determining a custom white balance.
Adjourn at 9:20 PM.

Thanks to Jack for the great program on raw files.
As promised, Jack's notes are available here at SCCC.
Here is the link for the pdf file. It is 11 pages, but is not a large file and should be easily downloaded.

Results Night 2 Guests
Larry Crabb called the meeting to order at 7:25 PM.
Announcements:
• November is the last month for freebies. No dues paid by the end of November, then you cannot compete in December.
• Larry C. will print a membership list after tonight and have it available at the next meeting.
• We only have a week between our Program Night (11/13) and our Results Night (11/20) in November. Try to have entries available at the next meeting to help our time-stressed judges.
• Steve Paulson needs assistant photographers for the December NAIA basketball tournament in Sioux City. Want to take some sport shots? Team portraits? Then let Steve know at F64JEE@aol.com or 712-258-4818. He will have a sign up sheet at the next meeting.
• Larry Crabb is making 35mm slides from .tif files. They should be available at the next meeting. Cost is $1.00 per slide. He will also do 6 x 6 cm slides at a cost of $2.50 per slide.
• Omaha Camera Show is 23 November. It begins at 9:00 AM at Fireman’s Hall, 60th and Grover, Omaha.
• SCCC’s savings CD was renewed at a slightly higher rate of interest.
• The theme of the next Iowa State Fair photography salon will be “Iowa Courthouses”.
Old Business:
• After a review of the US Post Office regulations regarding library and parcel post rates, it appears we need to file a fee-free form to qualify for the better, less-expensive rates.
• All N4C clubs will get the better rate once the form is on file.
• N4C should be the group to file; this will be discussed with Curt S.
• SCCC will go ahead and file to start the ball rolling.
• Copies of the form will be made and sent to other N4C groups.
• Once the form is on file we will need to include “Sioux City Camera Club” in the return address.
