FRAN KINGSBURY DISPLAYS 50 PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHS
Fran Kingsbury, local amateur photographer will display 50 of his photographs at the Ponca School Auditorium on Saturday, May 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The show entitled "50 Years --50 Portraits" represents his work in portraiture, a favorite subject matter for his camera. While not a commercial portrait photographer, his prints show the skill he has developed over the years to produce a photograph with considerable impact.
When asked about his portraits, Kingsbury said, "These are not your nice happy smiling pictures that mother and grandmother love. These are high impact pictures designed for competition in international shows." Kingsbury has been competing in world-wide exhibitions for more than 40 years with a number of his works being selected for exhibition in countries around the world.
Subject matter in the show includes not only family members (his children and grandchildren growing up) but also actors from local musicals, area babies, other children and adults. Babies and bearded men have been favorites in the exhibitions for many years and there are a number of such portraits included.
Kingsbury will be present at the showing to discuss his photographs with visitors and when asked, will reveal the exhibition record of selected prints.
BRIAR CLIFF REVIEW - SIOUX CITY ART CENTER
The Briar Cliff Review (BCR) and the Sioux City Art Center are teaming up for a "reading and reception" to honor the contributors to the newest edition of BCR. A reception wll be held on Thursday, May 6, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at
the Sioux City Art Center. The work will be on display in the Gardner Room, possibly through the month of May.
