Lindblade's photos to highlight forum
George Lindblade, president of G R Lindblade & Co., will give a presentation on his
career as a photographer and documentary filmmaker at Western Iowa Tech Community
College (WITCC) April 8.
The presentation, "From Behind the Lens," will be held in the Wells Fargo Room, WITCC
Building A, from 10 a.m. to noon. It is sponsored by WITCC's division of Lifelong
Learning as part of its monthly "Coffee and Conversation" series of informal lectures.
The talk is free and open to the public.
Lindblade, whose diverse assignments have ranged from photographing Hollywood
celebrities to creating trading cards for the Sioux City Police Department that
promote community awareness and department morale, has spent more than 50 years behind
the lens. One of his greatest video achievements is "Alert 3 - The Crash of UA 232,"
which examined how the community of Sioux City created a system of disaster
preparedness that ultimately saved many people when United Flight 232 crashed on July
19, 1989.
Among Lindblade's award-winning documentaries is a film about the closure of Zenith's
Sioux City plant in 1978. His portfolio of accomplishments also includes films and
videos promoting awareness of many Siouxland non-profit agencies and religious groups.
Fiona Valentine, Lifelong Learning coordinator at WITCC, said, "George has been the
seeing eye for this community for more than half a century. His lens has captured what
we intuitively feel but do not always acknowledge - that Sioux City, despite
everything, is constantly striving to be true to itself."
Lindblade's presentation will feature selections from his documentary films and still
photography in his presentation at WITCC. These include images of Sioux City from the
late 1960s.
